To be honest, it was a pretty awesome bait and switch: Point out the troubling things that some of the conference speakers have said (though to view it as an infiltration is a bit much) and have people show up to a what is clearly insane antivax protest. I would have been ticked off to learn that being against kefira also means being against the vaccine. I guess I am a kofer now, having been vaxxed and all.

It’s honestly incredible that such deranged people have influence enough to get a ban on a pretty famous sefer. (It’s possible i am wrong, and I hope so, but I am 99% sure that this Boruch Weiss is the main author of the peshuto shel mikra article written above and distributed to nearly every shul in Lakewood and one of the people behind the ban. It may be however, that he just took someone else’s article and put it on his website. If anyone has further info, please let me know.)

Either way, his entire website is an argument FOR a critical thinking education, not against it, contrary to what he thinks.

Honestly, I hope that Lehovin and Agudas Anshei Emes are a fringe and not starting to break out into the mainstream. We will see.

(Unfortunately, I see conspiracy theories becoming more and more common in the frum community where I live. I think it has to do with the unrelenting Trump defense mechanisms common among supporters, which is only possible if one is a conspiracy theorist, but we’ll see. The Lakewood Shopper, for example, has a column called Krack politics that defends Trump and the GOP no matter what, no matter how insane it is. He even defended Santos! I do not support Biden, but I do not defend the insanity coming out of the GOP nowadays. I hope the GOP nominates someone sane like Tim Scott or Desantis but I think everyone knows it will just be cuckoo Trump again.)
