This is like your last article regarding answering for the sake of an answer. Kavod hatorah is one of those amorphous cards chareidim carry around that has no real definition but is extremely useful to pull in case of emergency.
I spoke to someone who knows design, he said it's an extremely ugly Aron Kodesh with no flavor. Everything about it is wrong and simply doesn't fit. It's too big, has a weird combination of gold and silver, amongst other issues. The beauty in an Aron kodesh is in it being a nice centerpiece, it's not supposed to be a big building attached to the shul.
That's such a hater thing to say lol. Personally, I think it's absolutely gorgeous. I haven't seen it in person but from the footage, it looks so breathtaking and stunning that I sound like a teenage girl when I talk about it.
I'm not sure what credentials "being a designer" has about taste. I know many designers and many whose work I (and others) actually can't stand. Apparently many other people like their work (they do get plenty of business). It all boils down to a matter of taste.
There were standards of class for many years. This Aron Kodesh is "modern art" which would have been laughed at 50 years ago. It goes together with paint splotches on canvas, tight pants, and countertenor which is somehow considered music according to mezamrim.
You are entitled to appreciate it, which is a product of the society you live in.
No, Trump is class. Does he have a hodgepdge of gold and silver in his plane? How about mar-a-lago? The designer should've indeed learned from Trump. In hilchos design gold and silver do not mix.
If you don't think this is not about Sorotzkin's personal kavod, find out who asked YWN to take down the only comment posted there, one word: "Vulgar" Personally, I appreciate the Aron, as it shows the Trump-like vulgarity and superficiality of that culture.
Seriously though, this whole episode and its “defense” make me want to go full Slifkin. If the logic is correct then every Yeshiva should be spending tons of money to beautify their schools since it would pay for itself!

Tone deaf is a nice way to put it

The last point I agree with though.

I like the gaudiness. I have the taste of a black rapper (like R Sorotzkin and R.Eli apparently).
The designer liked what he saw in Trump's plane and decided to copy it.

I thought it was 2 million dollars, how did it become 8 million?
Inflation

Link to YWN article?
I can probably find out.
(Wondering now how much my shul could sell Pesica Neila if we make a fancier Aron)
